Background:
In June of 2016, interested mobile food vendors made requests to the City of Davenport to set-up and sell goods in the public right-of-way. The existing ordinance has a provision for mobile food carts, but trucks and other mobile units were excluded from this ordinance.
After a series of community meetings, the City of Davenport hosted a six-week pilot program to test out locations/zones and hours of operations. Concurrently, City Staff continued to research best practices and ordinances from other peer communities related to mobile food vending.
The attached ordinance creates new framework and guidelines for mobile food vending and establishes a mobile food unit vending program within the City of Davenport. Mobile food unit zones and hours of operations will be set by the City Council by resolution. Detailed requirements are outlined in the ordinance.
